The Death of Jesus

Church of Santa Maria del Rosario ("The Gesuati")

This is a sculptural take on the "Death of Jesus" iconographic type, in which angels carry Jesus' dead body and the instruments of his Passion up to the Father in Heaven. In this case, the instruments are the cross, the crown of thorns, and a pair of lances. At the base is Veronica's veil with Jesus' face imprinted on it.
